Not to be confused with sore mouth, which is scabby sores. White pus filled pimple rash pretty much describes staph.
Staph is usually found on Udder, inner legs, underside and tail end, but can spread to the whole animal if left unchecked. Heavy rain, hot humid weather..wet pens, all make for good breeding ground.
Treatment:
Always wear gloves when handling staph. Staph can be stubborn. There are a few treatments that are successful. You do need to be very diligent to get this cleared up.
Chlorhexidine is a fresh smelling disinfectant. Also known as Dyna-Hex, Hibiclens, Ezy-tm, and Exidine. There a few schools of thought on using this,
10:1 solution, 10 parts water to 1 part chlorhexidine
1 ounce Chlorhexindine into a 16 ounce spray bottle fill rest with water
50/50 water and Chlorhexidine
Chlorhexidine is already diluted..2% chlorhexidine in Purified Water, Ethoxylated Alcohol, FD&C Blue #1, Citric Acid, Fragrance....When I used it, I used straight from the bottle.
I share these different ideas to show you have choices. If you feel better diluting, then do so, It has been shown to be effective against MRSA at 1:100 dilution. If the staph is stubborn and you are not getting results, dilute less. Research has shown this product to be safe for the past 60 years used in hospitals.
Iodine
Dilute with saline to look like a weak tea
Wash the effected area with either the chlorhexidine or diluted iodine. At least 2 times a day. Let it dry, do not rinse it off. Place the goat in a dry area. Support the immune system with Vit C and Fresh raw garlic. Antibiotics maybe needed in severe cases. Do not pop the pimples, as the pus may spread the staph.
Want a natural solution? Essential oils do work!
Always use quality oils..not store bought!
Oregano : Dilute 5-10 drops in 14 oz glass bottle of witch hazel. Shake to mix before each use.
Protective blend: 10-20 drops in 14 oz glass bottle of witch hazel. Shake to mix before each use.
Do not wipe off...allow to dry.
