Inject or oral?? We get this question a lot and I want to address it.
FIRST AND IMPORTANT...NEVER inject any medication that comes in a pourable bottle, look for the rubber stopper on top! IF you can dose without a needle...its NEVER injected!
Injectable wormers: You can give these orally IF the goat is not heavy burdened or anemic..other wise inject
Antibiotics: I would rarely use injectable Antibiotics orally. Baytril is one that has been used in young kids with suspected Ecoli infection..they do 1/4 cc injected and 1/4 oral ONE TIME. Penicillin is another some may give orally for enterotoxemia/FKS. I recommend caution when choosing to do this as it messes up an already compromised rumen.
B complex, B12, Thiamine, BoSe, and other injectable supplements can be given oral in kids under 24 hours old successfully, otherwise, although oral wont hurt, they work better injected.
No matter how you give wormer or antibiotics, always follow up 3-4 hours later and for 3 days after treatment is complete with quality probiotics
Remember, Goats have a very fast metabolism. Injectable meds given Oral work through the system too fast to be effective in most cases. Much is lost in the process. Give your Goat the very best chance...learn to give shots...
AND NEVER USE POUR ON ORALLY
